Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is defined as having difficulty getting or maintaining an erection more than 50% of sexual encounters, according to The Cleveland Clinic.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, you’re not alone. Erectile Dysfunction may affect up to 76.5% of men globally, according to a 2019 review.
Although ED increases with age, it may affect approximately 26% of men under the age of 40, according to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
There are many causes for Erectile Dysfunction, such as a sedentary lifestyle, circulatory issues, other chronic health issues such as cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Consistent diet changes and exercise may help decrease ED symptoms, along with cutting back on smoking and alcohol.
Hormonal imbalances are linked to Erectile Dysfunction, as well, and it’s not just testosterone. Studies have shown that men with higher estradiol levels had a reduction in spontaneous and nocturnal penile erections. Over 88% of study participants who were under 40 years old with elevated estradiol levels also had erectile dysfunction.
Obesity was linked to erectile dysfunction too, which was thought to be related to estradiol levels, since fat is estrogen-producing. Waist circumference which accounts for visceral fat was associated with an increase in erectile dysfunction.
Men with low testosterone and high estradiol levels may have symptom improvement with boron supplementation. Boron helps balance hormones and may be helpful for those with ED related to hormonal imbalance such as estrogen dominance.
Boron is a micronutrient that is found in leafy green vegetables like spinach, and also in fruits such as raisins and prunes as well as nuts. Boron deficiency is growing, however, due to the lack of its density in soil and therefore, lack of nutrients in our food.
Prior to World War II, boron was added to food and served as a natural preservative until the introduction of more potent preservatives (which aren’t so natural--many of which are toxic, and at the very least, provide no nutrient value). When you look deeper at all the health benefits boron provides--strengthening bones, assisting the absorption of important vitamins and minerals, regulating hormones--it’s another piece of the puzzle as to why people might be plagued in today’s world with numerous chronic and mysterious symptoms and illnesses that could be the result of toxic overload.
For the management of erectile dysfunction, studies suggest that 6-10 mg of daily boron supplementation helps to increase both testosterone metabolism and free testosterone by up to 25% in as little as a WEEK. This dose also has been shown to cut estradiol levels in half. These studies demonstrate that boron may be a vital tool in managing erectile dysfunction that is caused by hormonal imbalance, such as low testosterone and estrogen dominance. Boron also reduced c-reactive protein levels by more than 50%.
It is believed that boron works by allowing more free testosterone to bind with proteins in the blood, which provides anti-aging benefits including reducing symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Since boron also helps the body to absorb and utilize vitamin D more efficiently, and research suggests that optimal vitamin D levels are linked to reducing erectile dysfunction, boron may be useful in conjunction with vitamin D and magnesium supplementation for the management of ED.
Magnesium helps activate the absorption and utility of vitamin D, so this pairing is vital for increasing vitamin D levels. Both vitamin D and magnesium are important for the regulation of calcium and phosphate as well as other nutrients instrumental in supporting healthy bones. When you’re deficient in either vitamin D or magnesium, you have the potential of running into trouble—skeletal issues, autoimmune disease, hormonal imbalances, metabolic issues, cardiovascular disease and more.
Our Bio Boron will launch soon on our website and be available in three strengths: 5 mg, 10 mg and 30 mg.
Our Bio Boron is now available on Amazon:
When beginning boron supplementation, it is important to begin “low and slow” and increase the amount you are taking over time, as your body allows. Initially, people may experience detox symptoms from beginning boron supplementation, but this is temporary. Simply reduce the amount you are taking and slowly increase as your body allows.
Most people will find benefits of boron supplementation at the 5 mg strength. Our therapeutic dose is reserved for those who have reached this level “low and slow” and are requiring additional amounts.
We recommend speaking with your healthcare practitioner regarding any underlying condition that may be the root cause of ED prior to supplementing with boron.
Don't forget to supplement with vitamin D and magnesium!
Our Vegan D3 + K2 Full Spectrum is unique because we utilize a sustainably harvested source of cholecalciferol derived entirely from lichen (a vegan source of vitamin D3). This product offers 3-IN-1-SUPPORT using Vitamin D3 along with two essential forms of K2 (MK-4 + MK-7).
Our Optimum Magnesium combines the chelated forms of highly bioavailable magnesium glycinate and malate. Because men require more magnesium than women (approximately 400 mg), we suggest that men take 3 of our capsules daily (at a different time of day than vitamin D to enhance absorption).
