What You Eat

Perhaps, there has been no other time in history, where people have eaten so much and yet so poorly. Americans for the most part eat a lot of food, but with very little nutrition. Disease is rising. We spend more on medical services, yet we are sicker. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, allergies and neurological problems including ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder and autism are at all time highs.

Most nutritionists tow the party line: low fat milk, no eggs and replace butter with margarine. Something is wrong, because when we follow their advice and we are sicker.

There are approximately 50,000 edible plant species, but only 150 are actively cultivated today. Just three: wheat, corn and rice provide 60 percent of the world’s food. The best defense for food allergies is to vary the food you eat and avoid lifeless food (sugar, white flour and hydrogenated vegetable oils).

The challenge for every family is to raise healthy children. You can best accomplish that by learning how to cook. All say that again, if you have a picky eater, it is imperative that you begin to cook. There just isn’t any other way to transform your picky eater into a healthy eater.

Not only cooking at home, but learning how to prepare food that provides the most nutrients. One of my favorite cook/text books is Sally Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions. You’ll not only get recipes, but lots of food history as well. Fallon debunks most trendy food fads and confronts the “diet dictocrats.”

A Light in the Darkness
I have just become acquainted with Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride’s work. She has a very comprehensive website: www.GAPS.com I can tell she will be one of my most quoted professionals. She’s a Neurologist whose autistic son prompted her intensive study into the cause and treatment of the disorder. She treated her son OFF the autistic spectrum! Her book, Gut And Psychology Syndrome is one I will soon purchase.

Dr. Campbell-McBride’s interview with Dr. Mercola was emailed to me by my daughter Joy. Joy said, “This is hands down the best interview I have ever heard that helped me understand why these conditions continue to get worse with each generation. And what’s even better it’s something that CAN be reversed or prevented in the first place.”

I agree! In fact, I think every parent (or anyone considering to become a parent) should listen to this interview. In a little over an hour, McBride explains how disease is so rampant. She explains why Autism (and all the other syndromes on the spectrum) are so common today. Best, she gives a step-by-step process to reverse the diagnosis!

Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) is a condition, which establishes a connection between the functions of the digestive system and the brain.  In the book Gut and Psychology Syndrome, she describes how the gut (large and small intestines) becomes disturbed. It begins in the birth canal with exposure to the mother’s flora. Both beneficial and abnormal flora is passed along by the mother.

The interior of the gut is the size of a tennis court and is covered with about 4½ pounds of 500 species of bacteria, viruses and fungi/yeasts. Wonderful life-supporting probiotic strains of bacteria, beneficial viruses and yeasts coexist with some of the most virulent and pathogenic stains of each of these types of organisms and as long as the beneficial types are in abundance, the others do not cause harm.

Obviously, McBride goes into great detail and the protocol is a careful introduction of whole foods, especially those containing natural probiotics. If your child is a picky eater, you will benefit from McBride’s book, Gut And Psychology Syndrome.
